Strike a Chord: STEVIE WONDER WANNABE

I used to play the organ oh…about a hundred and fifty years ago.

When some of the girls at my school was trying to outdo each other with their piano-playing prowess, me, I was contented with my Yamaha Electone.

It looked something like this (Yahoo! Image)

I could also read music, although most of the time I was actually playing by ear. Which was why I barely scraped through the third grade examinations – or was it the 2nd…? because I hardly bothered with the ‘tadpoles’ despite having the sheets spread out in front of me during practice.

I stopped going to class after about two years. No real reason other than I was bored with the pieces the teacher gave Mack the Knife, Isle of Capri, stuffs like that. I wanted more — Bach, Mozart, Stevie Wonder… Kidding.

But I did enjoy the organ, it really was fun to play: it had a 44 note keyboard, 13 note pedal board and lots of buttons for different instruments and  drum beats. I continued to play at leisure until it was time for me to leave the nest. No one else in the family plays, so eventually it was sold off.

Long story short, this keyboard maestro ‘died’ a quick death.  But that’s me, as always — a jack of all trades, master of none.

La Di Da 🙂

it’s ancient history really, I don’t think I would be able to recognize a note now even if it’s screaming at my face LOL! Thanks for dropping in amrit.

OMG!! You play or played organ? I never know you are into music apart from karaoke. Can’t help imagining you playing Carmina Burana by Carl Orff with organ. Must be one hell of a scene. Must be EPIC! 😉 Hihi..
*let’s go to PETRONAS Philharmonic sometimes

I fancied getting an organ once, but knew it would just gather dust like my guitar. I did learn to play the guitar a bit, drove the kids mad, but they would sit and listen while I played “how much is that doggie in the window?” They headed for the hills while I learned “Tom Dooley’. My teeth are aching just thinking about it. My instructor said the playing wasn’t too bad but I had to leave the singing alone! 😀
